Originating from the Gironde and typical of Bordeaux, it is often used for blending. It produces wines with characteristic smoky and peppery notes.
The quintessential Cirò grape, this is the most important red grape variety in the area, both in terms of tradition and production. It is the main component of Cirò red and rosé DOC, as well as of other Calabrian wines. It can be developed in several ways: from traditional rosés, fresh and fruity wines with their own character, to medium-bodied reds with good levels of acidity and great complexity. In case of a longer maceration process, the wine naturally gains more structure and better aging prospects. It usually has hints of red berries, Marasca cherries, dried flowers and licorice.
