When we open a special bottle we are filled with curiosity and
anticipation, wondering whether its bouquet will enthral us, surrounding us with fruity
red aroma so intense that it goes straight to the head. And when we sip the wine, we
want a pleasant taste of plum to confirm the sensations of its bouquet, filling our
mouths, revealing its quality in points that are rough - but not too rough, like tiny
balls between the tongue and the palate, and above the teeth just behind the lips:
it is tannins, on which the quality of the great wines depends, that bring about this
pleasurable sensation.
The Librandi family now cultivates the vines from which Magno Megonio is made on the
very same soil on which the Roman Centurion of the same name grew his vines 2000 years
ago. He was the first to leave a written record of the quality of the local wines,
which lives on in the wine named after him.
Made from native Calabrian vines within the Valdineto protected geographical ascription.
The latest addition to the Librandi repertoire of wines and fruit of the family's
ongoing research into native varieties, with a persistent ruby red colour and a
particularly intense bouquet.
