In the Socratic dialogue, Plato harmoniously combines the
philosophic wisdom of Socrates with the humane rationality of his young friend and
disciple Crito to produce some of his best thought. In the wine of the same name, we
have combined the quality of introduced varieties of grape with ancient local
wine-making tradition to create a unique top quality wine.
The Librandis' tenacious will to continue experimenting with ways of improving their
wines is reminiscent of the great philosopher's determination to stand by his principles,
freely choosing to stay in prison rather than take the opportunity for escape offered
by his disciples (Plato and Crito). It was a similar determination that led the Librandis
to plant Chardonnay and Sauvignon vines in the Strongoli countryside.
The wines prospered and yielded astounding results in Strongoli, where every detail is
reminiscent of Magna Graecia, even the methods used to grow grapes and make wine.
Today's Critone is a wine with a fruity bouquet and a refined dry taste produced from
90% Chardonnay grapes and 10% Sauvignon.
Made from white grape varieties which are not traditionally grown in Calabria, Critone
has a beautiful straw colour and a very elegant bouquet which successfully balances
marked varietal scents. Its taste is pleasant, harmonious, and dry, with slightly winy
hints.
